Despite being the only woman at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of Air Doll this evening, Bae Doo-na had some competition on the red carpet.
Her male co-star Itsuji Itao, opted out of the standard black tuxedo, for a crisp white satin suit, which included white shoes, and a white dickie bow-tie.
Bae still managed to stand out, wearing a red strapless Christian Dior Spring 2008 gown, with a matching bejeweled clutch.
I loved that she kept her jewels simple, with just a handful of gold bracelets, and I love her YSL Fall 2008 bowl hair cut.
Earlier in the day, Bae attended a press conference for the movie, wearing a black dress, with black studded Steve Madden Boogle gladiator flats.
Hayden Panettiere & Eva Longoria have arrived in Cannes, so hopefully they will continue this great start to the film festival.

Bae Doo-na, last seen in 2007’s How to Meet a Perfect Neighbor, is heading to Nepal for some charity work as part of the Good Neighbors program.

Good Neighbors International launched its work in Nepal in 2002 with the objective of child care and community development. It is an INGO based on Republic of South Korea with consultative status in UN ECOSOC (United Nation Economic and Social Council).
To this end, she left Korea on July 31 to spend the next seven days in the village of Lele in Kathmandu, Nepal. To capture the realities of village life and charity work, they were also accompanied by photographer Kwon Young-ho.
Bae Doo-na will be working to help the struggling livelihood and family of a 7-year-old girl, Somaya Nagarkoti, as well as visiting the girl’s school and delivering school supplies. Currently, Somaya and her two older sisters do mining work to help their family survive; Somaya spends most of their non-school time in the mines, while her sisters have long quit school (she earns approximately 50 cents for a day of work breaking rocks with a hammer). Despite her circumstances, Somaya reportedly has a lot of friends and dreams of becoming a doctor.
Not to let such a ratings opportunity pass them by, cable channel tvN will be broadcasting coverage of the trip in their World Special Love sometime in September. (The channel already aired the Ryu Seung-beom segment on May 1, wherein the actor traveled to Thailand, and the second segment in July with Shin Hyun-joon in Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur.)

Bae Doo Na, works at a supermarket
hyun-chae (bae doo-na) works at a supermarket, she's unlucky in love, a little goofy and seems to spend her days off at the library, getting books for the hospitalised father. one day, she discovers a note in an art history book, professing love and leading her to a string of other notes. meanwhile, dong-ha (kim nam-jin), an old friend from high school, comes back in to hyun-chae's life. dong-ha has always carried a torch for hyun-chae and moved to seoul especially to be nearer to her, but she seems too focussed on the notes, which she is convinced are for her, to realise...
a sweet rom-com, which is well written and executed. the main thread of the story is a pretty standard; boy loves girl, boy is perfect for girl, but girl has dreams of an unobtainable romance, which blinds her to the love that is right in front of her. still, 'spring bears love' has nicely constructed world, to surround this premise, and provides just the right amount of humour and romance, without degenerating into a weepy love story. although, i was rather puzzled to read that it was written by hwang jo-yun who, in the same year, also worked on the screenplay for 'oldboy'...
another thing that this film has is bae doo-na, who i recently waxed lyrical about, after watching her in the excellent 'linda linda linda'; she's just so good, i may have developed a little crush on her...
opposite bae is kim nam-jin, who i hadn't seen in anything else, but who did a great job of matching bae and bringing the likeable, if slightly screwy, bong-ha to life. kwang-rok oh and yun ji-hye provide solid support as hyun-chae's father and work colleague. overall, 'spring bears love' is an under-stated, enjoyable rom-com, with two very likeable leads.
